TROY, Mich. — K mart Corp. said today that it is changing its corporate logo.
The new red-and-white logo--featuring a bold “K” incorporating the word “mart” in diagonal script lettering--replaces the red-and-turquoise logo that has been K mart’s trademark for 28 years.
The new logo, designed by a New York consulting firm, comes amid a five-year, $2.3-billion effort by K mart to enlarge and modernize its discount stores.
The company, one of the largest retailers in the United States, is in the process of building about 250 new full-size K mart stores, enlarging 620 existing stores, relocating 280 others and refurbishing the remaining 1,260 to bring their layout and fixtures up to new store standards.
