Western to Move to Cog Hill

CHICAGO — The Western Open, one of the oldest events on the PGA Tour, will move to Cog Hill Golf and Country Club next year in compliance with anti-discrimination guidelines, according to a published report.

Today’s editions of the Chicago Tribune and USA Today reported that Butler National Golf Club, home of the Western Open for the last 17 years, is being dropped by the Western Golf Assn. because it does not allow women members.

New PGA Tour regulations, which go into effect next year, prohibit tour events from being played at clubs that exclude applicants on the basis of sex, race or religion.

The Western Open is the country’s second-oldest golf tournament, behind the U.S. Open.
