Sing It Again, Sam: BMI, the performing rights organization, has come up with a list of the most performed songs in the company’s 50-year history. According to a newly released list, “Yesterday” (the 1965 John Lennon/Paul McCartney Beatle composition) and “Never My Love” (the 1967 Richard Addrisi/Donald Addrisi Association tune) share top honors. They lead the list of BMI’s 50 most performed songs, with 5 million performances each. Jim Webb’s “By the Time I Get to Phoenix” ranked third, John Hartford’s “Gentle on My Mind” placed fourth and “More,” written by Newell/Oliviero/Ortolani and Ciorciolini, came in fifth--each registering 4 million performances.
