Two teachers from Mission Viejo schools have been named Orange County Teachers of the Year by the county Department of Education and are eligible for the state competition later this year.
In the Capistrano Unified School District, the Teacher of the Year is Lois Anderson, an English and social science teacher at Fred Newhart Elementary School for the past six years.
Douglas Yonce, a sixth-grade teacher at De Portola Elementary School, was picked for the honor in the Saddleback Unified School District.
Yonce has been teaching at De Portola for 18 years.
Anderson and Yonce are among four teachers from Orange County selected for the honor.
In October, they will compete against 40 other teachers for the state Teacher of the Year award.
