COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC Women Finish Third, Men Fifth in Cross-Country Meet

The Orange Coast College women’s cross-country team finished third and the men placed fifth Friday at the MiraCosta Invitational at Vista Park.
El Camino won the women’s event with 46 points. Mt. San Antonio (63) was second and OCC scored 94 points. Mari Genavides of OCC was fourth overall with a time of 19 minutes 54 seconds on the 5,000-meter course. Sherri Fox (20:51) of OCC was 12th.
El Camino also won the men’s title with 66 points, Mt. San Antonio was second with 68 and Glendale was third with 77. OCC had 179 points. Jose Brito finished 10th overall with a time of 21:32 on the four-mile course.
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
Orange Coast 3, El Camino 0--Nikki Lemerise had 11 kills, six blocks and five aces and Reiko Matsumoto had 14 kills to lead host Orange Coast (1-1) to a 15-13, 15-6, 15-12 sweep.
In the Cuesta water polo tournament:
Saddleback 11, Cerritos 10--Jason Armison scored with two seconds left to lift Saddleback. Cerritos led, 10-8, with 2:06 left but Saddleback scored the final three goals. Omar Ward had three goals for Saddleback (2-2), which lost to Cuesta, 16-4, earlier in the day.
