Stingy Defense, Runs by Harris Give Ohio State a 31-10 Victory

NEWTON, Mass. — Ohio State, 17th-ranked and showing signs of overcoming defensive problems of a year ago, got touchdown runs of nine and 35 yards by Raymont Harris and touchdown receptions of 10 and 21 yards by Bobby Olive in beating Boston College, 31-10, Saturday.

The Buckeyes, still smarting from a defense that allowed a school-record 297 points a year ago, held Boston College on first and goal from the one-yard line, turning back three running plays and recovering a fourth-down fumble on the two.

At the time, Ohio State led, 17-3, on Olive’s 10-yard reception of Greg Frey’s pass in the second quarter and Olive’s 21-yard catch of Kent Graham’s pass in the third, along with Tim Williams’ 52-yard field goal.

Both of Harris’ touchdowns came in the fourth quarter.

Boston College (0-2) hasn’t scored a touchdown on offense this season. It managed only a 31-yard field goal by Sean Wright on the game’s opening series before Jay Clark intercepted Graham’s pass and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter.
