An off-duty police officer, the brother of an officer killed two years ago allegedly by gang members, was the target of gunfire early today as he drove home from work, authorities said.
Brian Pratt, 27, who joined the Police Department shortly after his brother, Daniel, was killed in 1988, was not hit by the shots fired from another car as he drove north on the Long Beach Freeway, near the Santa Ana Freeway, in Commerce about 3:40 a.m.
Pratt, who is assigned to the Southeast Division, fired back at the gunman, said Lt. Ken Lady.
Detectives said there was no evidence to indicate the attack was in any way connected to the 1988 slaying of Pratt’s brother.
Kirkton Moore, a reputed gang member, and his girlfriend, Raylene Brooks, were to go on trial today on charges they murdered Officer Daniel Pratt on Sept. 3, 1988.
