Notre Dame 35, St. Francis 16--Notre Dame running back Fano Malieitulua rushed 18 times for 214 yards and scored on runs of 67, 32 and one yard as visiting Notre Dame (1-2) won its first game of the season.
Notre Dame’s other two scores came on 31-yard touchdown passes from quarterback Steve Colella to wide receiver Aaron Jones on the opening play of the second quarter and to wide receiver Vinnie Orlando midway through the third period. Colella completed nine of 12 for 190 yards.
St. Francis (2-1) scored on an 18-yard run by Fred Brashear off a fake field goal in the second period to narrow Notre Dame’s lead to 14-6. But Malieitulua ran 32 yards for a touchdown on Notre Dame’s next possession.
Quarterback John Willis completed seven of 24 passes for 119 yards and one touchdown for St. Francis.
