Harris C. Friedman, chairman of American Savings & Loan Assn., one of Florida’s largest thrifts, has resigned after regulators admonished the thrift about loan transactions with its largest shareholder, Enstar Group Inc. Stephen Lazovitz, a member of the Miami-based thrift’s board, was named chairman and acting chief executive. Vice Chairman Edward Mahoney was named president and chief operating officer. Friedman was appointed chairman and chief executive of the thrift in April, 1988, after the institution was acquired by Enstar, formerly known as Kinder Care Inc., of Montgomery, Ala. Enstar owns 50% of American Savings.
