HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Mt. Carmel Girls Make Volleyball Semifinals

SAN DIEGO — Mt. Carmel defeated visiting Mira Mesa, 15-6, 15-9, 7-15, 15-4, in the San Diego Section Division I girls’ volleyball quarterfinals Thursday.
Senior Shirley Aboyme led the second-seeded Sundevils (13-8) with 16 kills. Teammate Vicki deJesus, also a senior, added 10 kills. Junior Jennifer Alley had aces for Mt. Carmel, which will play San Dieguito on Tuesday in the semifinals. Mira Mesa finished 14-5.
In other Division I quarterfinal matches:
San Dieguito d. Fallbrook, 15-13, 15-4, 16-14--Paige Strayer had 19 kills for third-seeded San Dieguito (25-10). Aimee d’Andre had eight blocks for the Mustangs. Fallbrook ended the season 10-12.
Division V
Lutheran d. Vincent Memorial, 16-14, 15-9, 15-13--Cresta Olson led Lutheran (4-10) with six kills and three aces in the first-round playoff match. Elizabeth Onnen added three aces for Lutheran. Vincent Memorial finished 0-14. Lutheran plays top-seeded Parker (8-0), which had a first-round bye, Saturday at Parker.
