Cheered on by the Carpinteria High football team, which had more than a slight interest in the outcome, Bishop Diego defeated Oak Park, 18-3, Saturday night in a Tri-Valley League game at San Marcos High.
Oak Park (6-4, 3-1 in league play) must share the league title with Carpinteria.
Bishop Diego’s Benito Rivera hauled in a 34-yard pass from Richie Donati in the first quarter to open the scoring. Howie Dougherty added a touchdown later in the quarter.
The only bright moment for Oak Park came in the second quarter on a 24-yard Mike Stern field goal.
Bishop Diego scored its final touchdown when Oak Park’s Wes Lones fumbled the second-half kickoff and Danny Kendrick recovered the ball at the Eagle 28. Donati, 10 of 20 for 89 yards and one interception, then passed four yards for his second touchdown.
