Evolution, the Santa Cruz 70 that has dominated ULDB 70 Association competition this year, took the early lead among larger boats in the Los Angeles-to-Cabo San Lucas race.
Climax, Mike Campbell’s Barnett 52 from the Long Beach Yacht Club, was first across the starting line, a half-length ahead of Steve Steiner’s Blacksilver, but the sleds quickly moved in front as a 10-knot wind filled from the southwest.
