A 15-year-old girl was shot to death in her house in Acton on Monday afternoon, apparently accidentally, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.
The shooting occurred in the 33000 block of Listie Avenue shortly after 3 p.m, said Deputy Larry Mead.
The girl, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was shot by one of “two young men returning from a shooting trip,” Mead said.
“One of them prepared to clean his rifle. As he cleared the chamber, the rifle discharged and one round struck a 15-year-old female who was standing close by,” he said.
The two men began resuscitation efforts and called paramedics.
Capt. Steve Floyd of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said paramedics found the girl in the den of the house with a single bullet wound in the chest.
The girl’s mother, brother and a friend were at the house when paramedics arrived, Floyd said.
The girl was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The relationship between the owner of the gun and the victim was not revealed. Deputies said no arrests had been made.
