Jockey Patrick Valenzuela today was dealt an indefinite suspension by the Board of Stewards at Hollywood Park pending “complete medical and psychological evaluations to determine his fitness for license.”
Valenzuela, 28, who late last year served a 60-day suspension after testing positive for cocaine, has not ridden since Nov. 3, when he phoned in sick at Santa Anita.
On Wednesday, attorneys for Valenzuela said the absence was not drug-related. They said he recently was hospitalized for treatment of depression.
