Paramount : Vice Mayor Dies on Trip to Louisiana; Memorial Friday

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel Reformed Church for Paramount Vice Mayor Allen J. Parker, who died Dec. 7 of a heart attack.
A funeral service was held Monday in Lake Charles, La. Parker, 51, was stricken while visiting relatives in Louisiana.
The City Council has not made a decision on a replacement. Council members have the option to appoint someone to serve the remainder of Parker’s term or call a special election that could be combined with the next general election in November, Deputy City Manager Patrick West said. Parker’s term runs through November, 1994.
Parker was serving his first term on the five-member council. He was elected in April with 1,103 votes, the largest number of votes among seven candidates vying for three seats.
Before his election, he served on the Paramount Planning Commission. He also was an active booster of Paramount High School athletics.
Parker was a resident of Paramount for nearly 20 years. He was the owner of a construction company that specializes in building tennis courts.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon, a son, Todd, and two daughters, Tonya and Tiffany, and three grandchildren.
