A boating safety course for novices and experienced boaters is scheduled to begin Feb. 12 at the Ventura Yacht Club, according to the California Department of Boating and Waterways.
The classes are sponsored by the United States Power Squadron, a voluntary auxiliary of the U.S. Coast Guard. The 12-week course will cover seamanship and common emergencies, rules of the sea, aids to navigation, compasses and charts.
“This is an excellent opportunity to improve boating knowledge and skills,” said William H. Ivers, department director. The classes, oriented to outboard, inboard and sailboats, usually meet once a week.
