WHAT? Being considered as a way to upgrade O’Neill Park (E2) is a program to remove trees. Wait, we can explain. . . . Western sycamore, coast live oak and elderberry trees occur naturally there, but since the park was established in 1948, many pine, eucalyptus, liquidambar and ash trees have been planted to make it more forest-like. Alien to such a locale, these trees are being attacked by insects, diseases and purists. Park officials plan to remove them a few at a time and plant native species.
