TENNIS ROUNDUP : Seles, Prpic Lead Yugoslav Sweep of U.S.

Monica Seles and Goran Prpic of Yugoslavia won their singles matches and combined to win the mixed doubles for a 3-0 sweep of the top-seeded United States in the final of the Hopman Cup team championship at Perth, Australia.
Seles routed Zina Garrison, 6-1, 6-1, taking only 65 minutes. Prpic rallied to defeat David Wheaton, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, and the two combined to beat the Americans, 8-3, in the mixed doubles, which was reduced to one professional set.
The Yugoslav pair shared $100,000 for the victory.
Second-seeded Jim Courier kept his cool in 104-degree heat and beat Paul Haarhuis of the Netherlands, 6-4, 6-4, in the second round of the Australian Hardcourt championship at Adelaide, Australia.
“I’m feeling ready to mount a challenge,” Courier said. “It was warm today, but I’m from Florida. I can handle it.”
