The Edmonton Oilers defeated the touring Soviet-Central Red Army, 4-2, the Soviets’ first loss in five games in the NHL Super Series.
Glenn Anderson gave Edmonton a 2-0 lead at 11:18 of the second period when he intercepted a clearing pass and sent a hard wrist shot high on Red Army goaltender Maxim Mikhailovsky.
Zdeno Ciger scored with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the New Jersey Devils to a 2-2 tie with Dynamo Moscow in the NHL Super Series at East Rutherford, N.J.
The tie left Dynamo Moscow winless in three games in the Series (0-1-2). The Devils record against the Soviet teams is 1-1-1.
