NEW YORK — Delta Air Lines barged into Pan Am Corp.’s bankruptcy case today, seeking time to make an offer for a London route and possibly jeopardizing Pan Am’s carefully laid plans to sell that route and others to United Airlines.
Delta asked U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Cornelius Blackshear for time to make an offer of at least $50 million for Pan Am’s Los Angeles-to-London route. Pan Am had no comment.
“With more time, we would consider making an offer for other routes or assets in addition to the Los Angeles-London route,” Delta Chairman Ronald W. Allen said in a statement released from the carrier’s Atlanta headquarters.
