COSTA MESA — The Orange County Performing Arts Center has appointed a new vice president for development, AT&T; public relations executive Richard Tripp of Laguna Hills. The Center’s previous head of development, George E. Engdahl, resigned in November.
Tripp was selected with the assistance of the executive Los Angeles-based search firm of Korn Ferry International, the same firm that targeted Engdahl and that also is aiding in the selection of a new director for the Newport Harbor Art Museum. Tripp’s appointment becomes effective Feb. 4.
“We believe Mr. Tripp brings a unique combination of skills, executive background and knowledge of the Orange County community that will lead us into a challenging decade,” Center President Thomas R. Kendrick said in a prepared statement. “He has a considerable background in philanthropy.”
Tripp, 52, has lived in Orange County since 1983 and has been active in support organizations of South Coast Repertory. He said in a brief interview Thursday that he has no specific goals for the Center, other than “to expand its base, both through subscriptions and contributions.”
While Center officials voiced concern last month about the financial impact upon the Center of the recession and unrest in the Middle East, Tripp said he didn’t see “any signs of panic on anyone’s part” in his discussions with the Center’s search committee.
