A Philippine court ruled that Imelda Marcos may be sued and that the immunity from lawsuits granted to her late husband, former Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos, does not cover her. Mrs. Marcos’ lawyers had sought dismissal of corruption charges against her on grounds that the constitution in effect during her husband’s rule gave him and his subordinates immunity from suits during and after his term. The government has filed more than 30 cases against the Marcos family and associates, accusing them of plundering the economy.
