LONDON — Princess Anne and her husband Mark Phillips, who separated in August, 1989, after 15 years of marriage and two children, will divorce in June, 1992, according to a report today in the Daily Mirror.
Buckingham Palace refused to comment. The London tabloid attributed its report to an unidentified friend.
The paper said Anne’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II, has already given Phillips at least 250,000 pounds ($475,000) in what it called a divorce contract under which he has undertaken never to talk publicly about the split.
It reported: “Anne, who stole four days over New Year with her handsome new love, former Queen’s equerry (aide) Cmdr. Tim Laurence, wants the rift with Mark to be made final.”
The paper said that details were worked out by lawyers and that Phillips has accepted the terms as inevitable. He has full access to the couple’s children, Peter, 13, and Zara, 9.
