WRESTLING ROUNDUP : Savanna Wins to Extend Streak to 11

Savanna High School’s wrestling team, with strong performances from its four ranked wrestlers, had little trouble recording its 11th consecutive victory of the season Thursday night.
The Rebels, the third-ranked team in Orange County, defeated No. 7 Magnolia, 36-15, in an Orange League meet at Magnolia.
Savanna’s Tony Okada, the defending state champion and the county’s top seeded wrestler at 135 pounds, won the 145-pound class with a 27-10 technical decision over John McCown (24-2). McCown is the county’s No. 2 wrestler at 145.
Okada led McCown, 11-5, at the end of the first period and, 19-7, after the second period. The match was stopped with 13 seconds left in the third period when Okada (24-1) reached the maximum point total (27).
Savanna’s Vince Sura (No. 2 in the county at 119) defeated Teak Sato, 16-6; Sal Sura (No. 4 at 112) beat Tyson Theriault, 11-0, and Jim Pezina (No. 4 at 140) defeated Jason Alexander, 14-0.
Magnolia’s Wally Sato (135) pinned Jeremy Jung in 3 minutes 23 seconds. Winning by decision were No. 2 Chad Irwin (189) over Ed Wood, 12-5; Brad Speer (125) over Robert Goodloe, 17-5, and Jimmy Parke (160) over Glenn Grabhorn, 14-9. Savanna is 11-0, 2-0; Magnolia is 17-3, 1-1.
