COSTA MESA — South Coast Symphony has canceled its Jan. 19 concert at Orange Coast College and will honor tickets for the same program on Jan. 20 at 3:15 p.m. at the Irvine Barclay Theatre in Irvine.
“This is a prudent, conscious management decision in fiduciary soundness,” Jim Kerrigan, chairman of the board, said Thursday.
“We have not made any plans to cancel any of the other remaining concerts, and we really apologize for any inconvenience to our Orange Coast College subscribers.”
Kerrigan, who became chairman in July, estimated that the cancellation will save the orchestra “on the order of $8,000 to $10,000.”
South Coast Symphony canceled or postponed several concerts in 1989 because of a $30,000 accumulated deficit and anticipated costs of $120,000 for the 1989 season.
The organization underwent management restructuring and announced that it was out of financial trouble before announcing the 1990-91 season.
