Sparkler Drink Recalled: Tropicana Products Inc. issued a nationwide recall of its Sparkler carbonated soft drink, saying there have been reports of one person getting sick and bottles exploding. Intermittent failure of a water filtration system in a plant area that cleans off the machines filling the bottles occurred in December, said George Zulanas, executive vice president. Zulanas said only a small percentage of the bottled product may have been contaminated. “Possibly there could be a mild stomach upset if the product is consumed in a spoiled state,” Zulanas said. “We recommend consumers not consume the product.” The spoilage could cause fermentation, which could put additional pressure in the bottle, causing it to burst.
