An Irish national arrested in Abington in connection with a planned armored truck robbery is the highest-level Irish Republican Army operative ever arrested in the United States, the Boston Herald reported. Michael Oliver McNaught, 45, was arrested Wednesday with five other men outside a branch of the New Bank of New England. They were allegedly awaiting the arrival of an armored truck carrying nearly $1 million. The six had been under surveillance since July and were suspects in robberies in Rockland and Fitchburg, the FBI said.
