UAL Corp. Expects Huge Loss: The parent of United Airlines and one of the nation’s strongest carriers, said it expects to post the largest quarterly operating loss in its history, reflecting tough times for the industry at large. UAL’s results are to be reportedJan. 31, a company spokeswoman said. UAL’s largest previous loss was $192 million in the 1985 second quarter. Analysts said that on an operating basis, the carrier should lose up to $250 million in 1990’s fourth quarter, or roughly $7 a share after taxes. Like other carriers, United has suffered from reduced traffic because of the weak economy while paying sharply higher fuel prices.
