An environmentalist who advocates slow growth has been recommended to fill a vacancy on the Ventura River Valley Municipal Advisory Council.
The council reviews planning issues in the communities of Casitas Springs, Oak View, Mira Monte and Meiners Oaks, and makes recommendations to the County Board of Supervisors.
After interviewing three applicants Monday, the council chose Marjorie C. Emerson, 52, to represent the Oak View area until a 1993 election for the seat.
Supervisor Susan K. Lacey is expected to ask the Board of Supervisors to approve Emerson’s appointment later this month, said Steve Offerman, Lacey’s administrative aide.
Emerson, a 15-year Oak View resident and home tutor for the Ventura Unified School District and the California Indian Education Program, is also a member of the Environmental Coalition of Ventura County, Citizens to Preserve the Ojai and the Besant Meadow Preservation Group, a land conservancy.
“You can’t turn back the clock, but I’m not happy when I see any new houses go up. Every one of them means two more cars,” Emerson said.
