Nation IN BRIEF : VERMONT : Forceful Prosecutor Upheld by Court

A man convicted of sexually assaulting a girl demanded a new trial because, he claimed, the female prosecutor in his case was too emotional. But he was turned down by a Superior Court judge in Bennington County, Vt. Leonard Forte, 49, of Long Island, N.Y., faces 60 years in prison. Defense lawyers charged that prosecutor Theresa St. Helaire’s presentation was so forceful that it made witnesses and jurors weep and caused a court reporter to beg off the trial.
