Short Takes : Novelist Mosley Wins Top Award

LONDON — Nicholas Mosley, the 67-year-old son of 1930s fascist leader Sir Oswald Mosley, won Britain’s richest literary prize Tuesday for his novel “Hopeful Monsters.”

Mosley collected $43,550 for winning the Whitbread Book of the Year award with a novel about an English student growing up in Berlin’s radical political circles during the 1920s and 1930s.

Mosley, a wartime British infantry officer who holds the family title Lord Ravensdale, has also written a book about his parents, “The Rules of the Game: Sir Oswald and Lady Cynthia Mosley.”

His other works include “Assassins,” “Impossible Object” and “The Assassination of Trotsky.”
