Caterpillar Inc.: The construction equipment firm said fourth-quarter earnings skidded 89% to $11 million, while revenue dipped a fraction to $2.76 billion. The Peoria, Ill., firm attributed the drop to the effects of inflation on costs and lower sales volume, especially in Brazil. For the full year, profit fell 58% to $210 million, while revenue rose 3% to $11.4 billion.
