General Electric Co.: The New York electronics, defense and broadcasting conglomerate said fourth-quarter profit totaled $1.2 billion, up 6% from the same period a year earlier. Revenue also rose 6% to $17.2 billion. For the year, earnings totaled $4.3 billion, up 9%, on revenue of $58.4 billion, up 7%. The company credited companywide productivity improvements and the increasingly global nature of its businesses.
