Man on Bicycle Slain in Apparent Gang Attack

A young man riding a bicycle in the Athens district of South Los Angeles was killed by a gunman who got out of a car, walked up to the victim and shot him in the back in an apparent gang-related slaying, authorities said Tuesday. The shooting occurred near 111th Street and Budlong Avenue about 8 p.m. Monday, Sheriff’s Deputy Rich Erickson said.

“The victim had been riding a bicycle east on 111th Street when one of two men seated in a parked car got out and shot him several times with a handgun,” Erickson said. The victim, Salvador Rivera, 20, of Los Angeles, was shot in the back and the leg. He died at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center about 8:35 p.m. Monday.

In another incident, a man was wounded in an attack in a strip of Los Angeles east of Torrance. One of two men riding a motorcycle at 204th Street and Harvard Boulevard pulled a gun and shot Danny Dutile, 21, of Torrance as he crossed the street about 7 p.m. Monday, Sgt. Tony Rosa said. Dutile was treated at County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the left leg.
