Sara Lee Corp.: The Chicago-based food and personal-care products company reported record second-quarter profit of $166.8 million, 11.7% more than a year ago. Sales jumped 8.3% to $3.4 billion. The company said a shift toward higher-priced products was one reason for the improved earnings.
