NEW YORK — The Census Bureau, under intense pressure from New York City officials, has revised upward its 1990 count of the Big Apple’s population by close to 300,000.
The official 1990 population is now 7,322,564, up nearly 4% from preliminary figures issued in August, according to press reports today.
The population of New York City increased by 3.5% in the last decade, in part because Manhattan enjoyed the first big jump in residents since before World War I, the Census Bureau reported.
