Body of Missing Sailor Is Identified

A man whose body was discovered in the water off Dockweiler State Beach was identified by the coroner’s office Saturday as Richard Burt, 59, of Canyon Country, who has been missing since his boat capsized in the area on Jan. 14, authorities said.
A boater discovered Burt’s unclothed body on Jan. 25 floating a quarter-mile offshore near Los Angeles International Airport. Although the cause of death has not yet been determined, police said an initial examination revealed no apparent trauma.
Burt’s 30-foot power boat was found overturned on the Dockweiler shoreline on the evening of Jan. 14. He was last seen that afternoon working on the vessel at its slip in Marina del Rey.
