THE GULF WAR: The Home Front : Market Update

OIL: Oil prices jumped 89 cents to $21.85 per barrel as a new wave of war jitters pumped up a sluggish market.
DOW INDUSTRIALS: The average of 30 industrials rose 8.16 points to close at 2,662 in directionless trading.
CREDIT MARKETS: Bond prices edged higher but trading moved at a glacial pace as traders awaited fresh economic news and action in the Persian Gulf War.
METALS: Gold fell slightly in New York, down 60 cents an ounce to $376.10 on the Commodity Exchange.
CURRENCY: The dollar closed higher, boosted by what currency traders considered an escalation of the war.
