BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Master’s Men Continue Hot Streak, 100-70

Tom Bruner was nine of 10 from the field and scored 21 points to lead The Master’s College men’s basketball team to its eighth win in its past nine games, a 100-70 decision over Loma Linda in an NAIA District 3 game Tuesday night at Master’s.

Stuart Epperson scored 19 points and Jason Webster added 13 for Master’s, which was 42 of 75 (56%) from the field and improved to 15-7 overall. The Master’s only led, 41-35, at halftime but hit 66% of its shots (23 of 35) and outscored Loma Linda, 59-35, in the second half. WOMEN

Pomona-Pitzer 70, Occidental 62--Stephanie Francis scored a team-high 13 points for host Occidental, but the Tigers made only 26 of 69 shots (37.7%) from the field in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game. In contrast, Pomona-Pitzer hit 30 of 56 (53.6%) field-goal attempts.

Jacqui Dent added 11 points for Occidental (9-9, 2-3). BOYS

Palmdale 79, Canyon 62--Jason Grimes and Chris DeGlopper each scored 23 points for host Palmdale (13-8, 4-3) in a Golden League game. Grimes had 17 rebounds and DeGlopper added 12.

Reggie Haggans scored 15 points for Canyon (12-9, 4-3).

Santa Clara 72, Nordhoff 68--Art Barron (21 points), Anthony Maestas (17), Chris Cole (15) and Isaiah Mustafa (10) all scored in double figures for Santa Clara (19-4, 6-0) in a Frontier League game at Santa Clara.

Tim Sebek scored a game-high 22 points for Nordhoff (11-8, 1-4).

Calabasas 86, Fillmore 62--Greg Waugh and Chuck Sergis each scored 24 points to lead host Calabasas (7-12, 1-5) in a Frontier League game. Waugh had 10 rebounds and Jason Young added 15 points and eight assists.

Hart 56, Burbank 52--Marty Downen had 20 points and 14 rebounds for host Hart (15-6, 6-1) in a Foothill League game.

Tony Valenzuela scored 15 points and Ali Peek added 10 for Hart, which overcame a 19-10 first-quarter deficit.

Alhambra 59, Burroughs 53--Rick Mulloy had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Victor Hernandez added 13 points and five steals for host Burroughs (9-10, 3-4) in a Foothill League game.

Marshall Fundamental 76, Village Christian 70--John Brown scored 26 points for Village Christian (11-10, 3-4) in an Alpha League game. Marshall Fundamental improved to 4-13, 1-6.

L.A. Lutheran 59, Coast Christian 57--Trevor Dietrich was seven of eight from the field and scored 18 points to lead host L.A. Lutheran (8-9, 6-4) in a Heritage League game. Sean Steward had 12 points and Trevor Earle added 10 for L.A. Lutheran.

Brentwood 66, Faith Baptist 63 (OT)--Brentwood’s Kevin Rille hit a three-point basket at the end of regulation to tie the score, 61-61, and made another one in the closing seconds of overtime to lift host Brentwood (10-9, 5-2) in a Delphic League game.

L.A. Baptist 69, Western Christian 63 (OT)--Dan Shackelford scored 20 points to lead four players in double figures for host L.A. Baptist (9-10, 4-3) in an Alpha League game.

Alex Pistone scored 16 points, Glen Dodson had 13 and Larry Masters added 11 for L.A. Baptist.

Crossroads 77, Buckley 58--Brett Wallette scored a game-high 24 points, but Buckley fell in a Delphic League game at home.

Hart 57, Burbank 28--Anjanette Dionne had 21 points, nine assists and six steals to lead Hart (19-4, 6-1) to the Foothill League victory at Burbank.

Shannon Martin grabbed 16 rebounds for Hart, which limited Burbank to four points in the fourth quarter.

Buena 57, Santa Barbara 32--Alisa Ewin had 12 points and Leanne Ishikawa and Mia Palkie added five steals and five assists for host Buena (17-2, 9-1) in a Channel League game.

Thousand Oaks 67, Agoura 26--Michelle Palmisano scored a game-high 25 points to lead Thousand Oaks (21-1, 10-0) in a Marmonte League game at Agoura.

Thousand Oaks set a school record for consecutive wins with 19, breaking the mark of 18 set in 1987-88. Sasha Scardino added 10 points for the Lancers.

Alemany 66, St. Bernard 59--Sarah Guziel had 25 points, 13 blocks and 12 rebounds for host Alemany (15-6, 6-1) in a Mission League game.

Rio Mesa 57, Oxnard 26--Marion Jones scored 23 points and had six steals for host Rio Mesa (14-5, 8-2) in a Channel League game.

Quartz Hill 69, Saugus 45--Charley Johnson scored a game-high 20 points and Shannon Nash added 15 to lead Quartz Hill in a Golden League game at Saugus.

Janice Van Mourik had 16 points and 11 rebounds for Saugus.

Highland Hall 44, South Bay Lutheran 37--Kristen Johansen and Monica Palma scored 24 and 17 points as Highland Hall (12-7, 4-0) overcame a 28-12 first-half deficit in a Westside League game.

Chaminade 49, St. Paul 22--Aubry Tompkins had 16 points and 14 rebounds for host Chaminade (14-6, 4-3) in a Mission League game.

Oak Park 48, Bishop Diego 37--Marcy Reed had 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead Oak Park in a Tri-Valley League game at home.
