Canada May Limit Role in Mideast Peacekeeping

UNITED NATIONS — Canada, which has taken part in virtually every U.N. peacekeeping effort, may be limited to an advisory role in any observer group sent to the Persian Gulf, Foreign Minister Joe Clark said.
“Our view has always been that there may be very good reasons why a peacekeeping force . . . should be something drawn from the region,” Clark told reporters Monday after meeting with U.N. Secretary General Javier Perez de Cuellar.
