REGIONAL ROUNDUP : College of Canyons Beats Oxnard, 4-3

Freshman shortstop Walter White singled in two runs with two out in the eighth inning to lead College of the Canyons to a 4-3 victory over Oxnard in a battle of unbeaten Western State Conference men’s baseball teams at Oxnard on Monday.
With the bases loaded and nobody out in the eighth, Oxnard pitcher Joe Canfield recorded the first out on a force play at the plate and the second on a strikeout. White, the No. 9 hitter, then slapped a single into left-center to give Canyons a 4-2 lead.
Sophomore right-hander Roland De La Maza (3-2) allowed six hits, struck out 14 and walked none for Canyons. After Oxnard (14-9, 4-1 in conference play) jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first, De La Maza retired 13 batters in a row and 17 of the next 18.
Scott Roth drove in two runs with a first-inning single for Canyons (8-9-1, 5-0), which won for the fifth time in a row and eighth time in nine games.
In other college baseball:
Ventura 20, Glendale 10--Right-hander Sam Arroyo (3-0) allowed two runs over seven innings, struck out five and walked three in a Western State Conference game at Ventura.
Kevin Zoll was two for three and had four RBIs. Teammates Mitch King (three RBIs), Chris Marsden and Tim Cornish each had two hits.
Ventura is 15-4, 2-2 in conference play. Glendale is 8-9, 0-4.
The Master’s 6, Cal Lutheran 4--Andy Martin, Chad Hankinson and Russ Henzie all hit solo home runs to support the pitching of Mike Smith (2-3).
In seven innings, Smith struck out eight and scattered four hits. Sam Minyard closed out the ninth inning for his first save of the year.
Mike Clark (3-2) took the loss for Cal Lutheran. The Master’s scored all six of its runs in the first three innings.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Westlake 5, Crespi 4--Senior designated hitter Derek Stein rapped a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning that scored Rob Neal, lifting Westlake (3-2) to a nonleague win at home.
The rally made a winner of pitcher James Clark (2-0), who had relieved starter Donnie Hill in the seventh inning. Victor Seper went four for four with a double and a run batted in for Crespi (2-3).
Todd Preston had two hits for Westlake and Rico Lagatutta had two hits, including a home run. Ryan Staley (0-1) took the loss for the Celts.
Newbury Park 3, Buena 0--Tighe Harrell pitched a three-hitter and helped himself with two runs batted in as Newbury Park (2-4) won a nonleague game at home.
Harrell (1-1) struck out three and walked none. He hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning and an RBI single in the fifth.
Palmdale 5, Bell-Jeff 0--Junior Danny Salazar tossed a two-hitter in a nonleague victory at home.
Chris Tampoya and Scott Reusser each doubled for Palmdale. Bell-Jeff is 0-4.
GIRLS’ SOFTBALL
Chatsworth 17, Garfield 2--Junior shortstop Maggie Sherman hit two home runs, tripled and drove in four runs for Chatsworth (3-0).
