Legislative Solution to Asbestos Claims Sought: The federal courts’ policy-making arm asked Congress to adopt a legislative solution to the tens of thousands of asbestos health claims pending in state and federal courts. The U.S. Judicial Conference, a 27-judge board headed by Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, urged Congress to “consider a national legislative scheme to come to grips with the impending disaster relating to resolution of asbestos personal injury disputes.”
