Your article ignored most of the new and expanded services Schabarum brought to the residents of Los Angeles County.
In particular, because of his leadership, the only new county libraries built in the 1980s were in the First District. He provided the financial acumen and vision to build a new headquarters for the County Library at Rancho Los Amigos in Downey. New programs such as literacy centers, technology and video services pioneered in his district because of his encouragement.
As a former county department head, I always found Supervisor Schabarum as the most accessible, knowledgeable and creative of all the supervisors.
