California IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Armored Car Guard Dies After Shooting

An armored car guard died Friday after he was shot during a struggle with a man who took a money bag the guard was carrying inside a drugstore, authorities said. The unidentified guard, who worked for Armored Transport of California, died after he was taken by helicopter to University Medical Center, according to hospital officials. Police said the robber abandoned his car at a school a few blocks away in the Sacramento suburb of Rancho Cordova. The robbery occurred about 11 a.m., when a man tried to grab a bag with an undetermined amount of money from the guard in a Thrifty drugstore on Keifer Boulevard, authorities said.
