Pete Halsmer drove to the front 20 minutes from the end, then held off tenacious Robby Gordon to win the Miami GTO-GTU sports car race.

Halsmer, the 1989 Miami and IMSA GTO series winner, started second and traded leads with Gordon until Halsmer won by 0.678 seconds.

Halsmer, who won $11,000, averaged 74.095 m.p.h.

Trucks finished 1-2-3 at the San Felipe 250 off-road race in Mexico Saturday, Larry Ragland of Phoenix winning in a Chevrolet by three minutes over Rob MacCachren of Las Vegas in a Ford. Walker Evans of Riverside was third.

Ragland averaged 61.73 m.p.h. for the 219-mile race.

Winning the motorcycle division was the Kawasaki team of Larry Roeseler of Bloomington and Ted Hunnicutt Jr. of Irvine.
