Cal Poly Pomona Signs Valley’s Castaneda

Sylvia Castaneda, who helped Valley College make consecutive trips to the semifinals of the women’s state junior college basketball tournament, has signed a letter of intent with Cal Poly Pomona, Valley Coach Doug Michelson said Friday.
Castaneda, a 5-foot-9 sophomore point guard from Alemany High, twice was chosen to the all-state tournament team and was All-Southern California this season. She averaged 5.9 assists a game and chose Pomona over Cal State Los Angeles, Michelson said. “I think they’re looking for her to start right away,” Michelson said.
