Morgan Reeser, the top-ranked U.S. sailor in the 470 dinghy class, was disqualified from the Olympic pretrials regatta at Newport Harbor Yacht Club last weekend for picking a fight with rivals Mike Sturman of Santa Monica and his crew, Bob Little, officials said. Reeser, 28, of Miami, was disqualified under yacht racing Rule 75, which involves “gross misconduct of the rules or a gross breach of good manners and sportsmanship.”
Mike Schoettle of Rancho Palos Verdes, chairman of the U.S. Olympic Yachting Committee, said the penalty will cost Reeser a U.S. berth on the Pan American Games team but won’t affect his Olympic prospects unless the U.S. Yacht Racing Union takes further action.
