UCLA’s Pacific 10 champion men’s gymnastics team will seek its third NCAA championship when the team portion of the three-day event opens today at University Park, Pa. The Bruins won in 1984 and ’87 under Coach Art Shurlock, the 1991 Pac-10 coach of the year.
Scott Keswick, UCLA’s conference gymnast of the year, and Chainey Umphrey, who finished second and third in all-around at the NCAA West regionals in Norman, Okla., are entered in individual all-around and the floor exercise.
Tonight’s three top teams will compete Friday night for the team championship. Individual finals will be Saturday.
