PREP ROUNDUP : Hammer Pounds Out Sweep for Esperanza

Mike Hammer improved his season singles record to 39-3 as Esperanza defeated Los Alamitos, 12-6, in an Empire League boys’ tennis match at Los Alamitos Wednesday.
Hammer swept, 6-0, 6-2, 6-2, in No. 1 singles as Esperanza improved to 15-0, 6-0 in league.
Also for Esperanza, Dan Harris swept, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, in No. 2 singles and Mike Burgess swept, 6-3, 6-4, 6-1, in No. 3 singles.
In Sea View League tennis:
University 13, Woodbridge 5--Visiting University (16-1, 8-0) clinched at least a tie for the league title. Joey Frantz won, 6-0, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles and Steve Tze and Bryan Shapiro won, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles for University.
Saddleback 14, Newport Harbor 4--Vern Nguyen and Charles Ko swept in doubles, 6-4, 6-2, 6-3, for host Saddleback (11-4, 4-4).
In South Coast League tennis:
San Clemente 11, Capistrano Valley 7--David Roditi swept, 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, for visiting San Clemente (11-1, 5-1).
Mission Viejo 14, Irvine 4--Billy Casas swept, 7-6, 6-2, 6-2, and Todd Blum swept, 7-5, 6-4, 6-0, for host Mission Viejo (8-6, 4-2).
Dana Hills 17, El Toro 1--Kurt Bruggeman swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, for host Dana Hills (14-0, 6-0).
In Garden Grove League volleyball:
Garden Grove 3, Santiago 1--Troy Davis had 16 kills and seven blocks and David Tran had 46 assists for host Garden Grove (11-2, 9-0), which won, 11-15, 15-10, 15-12, 15-6.
In Orange League volleyball:
El Modena 3, Villa Park 0--Jon Leedom had eight kills and four blocks and Jeff Sutter had four kills and eight blocks for host El Modena (6-5, 4-1), which won, 15-0, 15-4, 15-8.
Valencia 3, Canyon 0--Dan Melia had 15 kills and Lyle Castillo had 13 kills for visiting Valencia (11-0, 5-0) in a 15-7, 15-11, 15-8 sweep.
In Sunset League volleyball:
Marina 3, Westminster 0--Todd Lewis had 23 assists and Scott Anderson had five kills for host Marina (9-3, 6-2), which won, 15-0, 15-9, 15-10 .
In Sea View League softball:
Woodbridge 7, University 0--Alison Ward pitched a three-hitter for Woodbridge (13-6, 3-0) at University. Ward (7-5) struck out seven batters. Deanna Black had three hits and four RBIs and Nicole Johnson had a home run for the Warriors.
In South Coast league softball:
Irvine 7, Dana Hills 0--Rebecca Smith pitched a three-hitter, struck out two and walked one for host Irvine (15-2, 3-0). Jennifer Brundage hit a home run and had three RBIs and Samantha Lutsch had two hits and scored twice for Irvine.
Capistrano Valley 3, El Toro 0--Jennifer Smith (5-2) pitched a one-hitter for host Capistrano Valley (8-4, 3-0). Danette Morris had three hits and Danelia Hugelshofer and Neeta Khamamkar had two hits each for Capistrano Valley.
Mission Viejo 1, San Clemente 0--Kerin Dull (9-5) pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts for host Mission Viejo (12-7, 1-2). Danielle Howard had a squeeze bunt in the sixth for Mission Viejo’s run.
In Empire League golf:
Cypress 212, El Dorado 218--Erik Wolff had a two-over-par 38 for El Dorado (11-3, 6-2) at Lakewood.
In nonleague golf:
Servite 181, Western 200--Oliver Lang shot a one-under 34 for Servite at Fullerton Golf Course. Tiger Woods shot 37 for Western.
