Gays and Closets--a TV Controversy

The most revealing clue to Hollywood’s ongoing history of homophobia is quoting a “bisexual Hollywood screenwriter who did not want to be identified.”

Quoting a closet case reinforces one of the town’s legends: Being openly gay is unacceptable. Until Hollywood deals with its own gay self-hate, TV will reflect pathological closeted-ness.

Only when every gay and lesbian (and, yes, bisexual) person working in television is self-accepting enough to be identified by name will there be a cure for the homophobia. Insidiously, the media (including Calendar) actively participates in this conspiracy of silence every time such a person is quoted anonymously.
